Inauguration of new vacation rentals in South Lake Tahoe | South of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Finishings are underway on six two-story homes off Emerald Bay Road that will be used as vacation and short-term rentals. The accomplishment was celebrated Friday with a ribbon cutting with the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, Builders and the City of South Lake Tahoe. Earlier in the day, owners and builders celebrated the achievement with their local contractors and partners.

When Measure T was passed in South Lake Tahoe, which phased out vacation home rentals (HRVs) in neighborhoods, use as a short-term rental was still permitted in the tourist center and commercial areas. The half-acre lot where the new Emerald Bay cabins are located is in a commercial area.

Lot owner, South Lake Tahoe builder Eric Barstad partnered with Roman Kreminski and Melissa Wong to create the six units that are all carbon copies of each other, with outdoor spaces and upstairs garages and on the ground floor. Once the final permits have been obtained, they will be rented out to

Barstad, who graduated from South Tahoe High, appeared before the South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission in March 2021 to have the Major Design and Special Use Permit reviewed.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was to welcome Emerald Bay Cabins as new members of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.
